During the filming of an underwater scene in “Avatar 2” star Kate Winslet held her breath for an amazing seven minutes and 14 seconds. On Nov. 10, 2020, ET Online reported she broke the previous record held by Tom Cruise — six and 1/2 minutes.

The actress was unaware others knew until people at work began mentioning the awesomeness of her achievement. Winslet admits she is proud that she broke Cruise’s record.

She told ET Online, “It was brilliant and I was very proud of myself and I’ll probably never be able to do it again.” Her success came after four weeks of intense training in the dive tank. She says she loved the training.

Winslet said one of the things she loved about her job is doing new and unexpected things. For example, in the period drama, “Ammonite,” she learned how to be a paleontologist. “I had no idea how to do any of those things.”

Interestingly, Winslet almost drowned during filming underwater scenes in “Titanic,” but she did not beg off when director James Cameron asked her to hold her breath in “Avatar 2.”

The long-awaited sequel to the 2009 film “Avatar,” has met with delay after delay for its release date. “Avatar 2” is currently set to hit the big screens in December 2022, although there is a rumor the official name of the film might be “Avatar: The Way of Water.”

Sigourney Weaver and Sam Worthington reprise their roles as Dr. Grace Augustine and Jake Sully, respectively. Winslet joins the cast as Ronel.
