On Friday, Oct. 13, 2017, the Collins football team lost their second game this season to Lincoln Park High School and are now, 5-3.

Both Collins and Lincoln Park played away from their home field to Lane Tech’s football stadium. The game began at 7:15 p.m. and ended at 9:45, although it was scheduled to end at 9.

Lincoln Park won with the final score being 36-8, and this was a wonderful win for them since it was their homecoming game. After they won, the team celebrated on the field with their cheerleaders, band, and the estimated 300 students who came with them for support.

The students, who came along for support, went all out to cheer on their team by wearing their school’s colors, making banners and waving pom-poms, and even had their tiger mascot on the field to show school spirit.

Although Collins did not have as big of a fan base on their side, the people who did come cheered their team on with as much enthusiasm as Lincoln Park’s students, wearing the football player’s jersey numbers to show their support.

After the game, Collin’s coaches Crawford, Battles, and Ron had a talk with their team, each taking a different approach as to how they consoled the players.

Coach Crawford congratulated the team for their effort and energy on the field and even thanked them for holding their heads high, taking their loss with dignity, and most of all, having the heart not to quit even though they lost.

Coach Battles took a more stern approach, telling the team to step up their game and stressed the importance of practice even during the offseason.

Coach Ron decided to end the night on a positive note by encouraging the team that they have one more game but with a lot of practice and determination, they could win and go on to the sectionals.
