Elon Musk unveiled a new semi-truck that, when empty, can go from zero to 60 mph in five seconds. It can do it in 20 seconds when the trailer is full.
The Tesla semi can run a full load for 500 highway miles without recharging. There is also a version that can run for 300 highway miles. However, a diesel semi-truck can travel farther and the gas tank filled faster than it would take to recharge the battery.
The drive system is guaranteed for one million miles. There is not a set price for the semi but Tesla claims truck drivers will make their money back in as little as two years. The cost of running and maintaining the truck is far less than a diesel.
The cab is larger because the engine is smaller and will have an enhanced semi-autonomous driving system called AutoPilot.
